Meet the Band

These are the people that make the music happen

Musical Director

THE MD

The Musical Director was once a drummer who lost one drum stick so the only place left was out the front.
Charged with the responsibility of bringing it all together mostly the MD hangs on for dear life as the band does whatever it pleases.

Cornets

THE CORNET

The king of melody played only by the most musical and talented people.
Cornet players rarely have an ego and can count as many as 4 bars rest with ease.

The principal cornet almost always keeps opinions to them selves.

Horns

THE HORNS

Consisting of 2 types of instruments (Flugel Horn & Tenor Horn) the horn section are precious flowers with their delicate and beautiful sound. They fill in the middle of the band and the principals in each section are often featured for solos.

The horn is the easiest instrument to play and can often be learned on the way to a gig.

Baritones

THE BARITONE

The poor middle child. Sitting in between the Tenor Horn and the euphonium the Baritone often doesn't understand it's importance. Infact most people don't. The colour they provide the the inner band is extremely valuable to completing the sound. If only the players of the "bari" knew this.

Euphoniums

THE EUPHONIUM

Typically eupho players wish they were cornets often crying out for the melody but being caught up in counter melodies.
Truely a stunning solo instrument, some of the finest virtuoso brass band musicians have crafted their music on this instrument. It's not a trumpet "it's a *@#dy Euphonium"

Trombones

THE TROMBONE

The butt of many jokes, the trombone was originally known as the sackbutt. It is the most primitive of the brass instruments as are the people that play them.

Perfect for making funny sound effect and damaging ear drums.

The bass trombone makes excellent fart noises

Tubas

THE BASSES

We call tubas basses. This makes it easier for the conductor to understand what type of notes they play.
Basses make the ground rumble, they lay the foundation of the pitch and always help us slow down when we want to go fast.

Percussion

THE PERCUSSION

This section is largely reserved for those with anger issues. Every instrument is struck with force and always played as loud as possible.
Many people think that percussion is easy to play and the truth is that they would be right.

Committee

THE COMMITTEE

The most thankless job in the world.
We are fortunate to have members of our playing group and non playing members who have the best interest of the band, our hall and our partners at heart.
